Mel Torme was a successful musician, jazz vocalist and recording artist who also appeared in films such as Higher and Higher (1943), Good News (1947) and The Patsy (1964).
In the mid 1950's he and Marilyn were rumoured to be having an affair. In his book It Wasn't All Velvet he claims that he took her for drive-through burgers, which they ate while they sat in his car for ages talking about everything. He claimed that she told him she liked him because he made her laugh.
